Hopefully, even if we’ve lost some good versions of it, we all really just love what love is and what it stands for. After all, the basis of giving back really is love. We made a list of 8 fun things you can do to show love on Valentine’s Day to help you love the day of love, even if you’re single!

1. Volunteer locally in your community. Extending a hand to others is the best way to love.

2. Make homemade cards for your friends and family. Who doesn’t love craft time?! Gifts from the heart mean so much to people. You can also deliver cards to the local children’s hospital or elderly home.

3. Invite some friends over and bake yummy treats that you love! The more chocolate the better.

4. Purchase our LoveNOW necklace to proclaim your love! www.no1without.com

5. Give Blood. Spread love and save lives at your local blood bank or hospital.

6. Send letters of love and support to soldiers away from home. www.anysoldier.com

7. Thank someone that serves you and show them love. (The mailman, the bank teller, the checker at the grocery store, the bus driver.)

8. Raise awareness on your social media for causes that pull your heart strings. Use the day of love to educate.

So far, we have gotten an amazing response on our collaboration necklace with The Giving Keys. Now it’s time for us to tell you why we love them so much!

The Giving Keys combines giving, paying it forward, and employing people who need it most to complete their business model. Each recycled key is engraved with a special message. You may choose from a list of words or simply customize your own.

The Giving Keys is partnered with a local Los Angeles transitional home and program called PATH. PATH helps to provide engravers who are determined to reset the course of their life and transition out of homelessness. 5 out of their 10 employees have now earned enough to get their own apartments!

The cool part is that the partnership with PATH, and the success of the engravers sounds like enough to be an amazing business model. However, we aren’t done yet! Here’s where paying it forward comes into play. When the wearer of the key encounters someone in life who needs the message on the key, they are encouraged to give it away and share the story. There are so many amazing stories to read http://www.thegivingkeys.com/blogs/news

We are so excited that people are in love with our LoveNOW Campaign and we’re dancing with glee as we watch this limited edition necklace fly off the shelves! The purchase of this piece provides a job for someone transitioning out of homelessness AND clean water to someone for 25 years. What is better than that!?

In the aftermath of Sandy, it didn’t take us long here at No One Without to realize it was time for us to take action. Giving is not what we do for a profession, it’s who we are. We decided to search diligently for an organization that does work on the ground in New York on a regular basis that was doing hurricane relief work as well. We wanted a group that knew where to go and who needed help the most.

By chance, from a random email, we found City Harvest. www.cityharvest.org We were drawn to the work that they do and knew that they should be the partner, should they accept the invitation. Thankfully, our friends at City Harvest were thrilled to take our call!

$5 will feed 20 people that are hungry. Your purchase from No One Without will donate $5 to City Harvest for Hurricane Sandy victims who are hungry and in need.

City Harvest has been serving the hungry men, women and children in New York City for 30 years and is the world’s first food rescue organization. In addition to daily deliveries to soup kitchens and and food pantries across five boroughs, City Harvest is making additional food drop offs in the hard hit areas of Staten Island, Coney Island and Red Hook in Brooklyn, and Breezy Point and Rockaway in Queens.

The City Harvest Trucks were damaged in the flooding, they took a loss. However, they refused to just accept defeat. They rented trucks and continued to move. Since the storm, they have given over 1 million pounds of food. This year, City Harvest will collect more than 42 million pounds of excess food from all segments of the food industry, including restaurants, grocers, corporate cafeterias, manufacturers and farms. The food is delivered free of charge to some 600 community food programs across the city by a fleet of bikes and trucks.

City Harvest helps feed more than 1 million New Yorkers that face hunger each year. Let’s help them!! Shop til you drop at www.no1without.com to give 20 people clean water with every item you purchase!

As most of you know, No One Without was invited to participate in our first out of state event in Memphis, TN. Kelli, our Chief Operating Officer, is from Memphis and used to work for a place called The Church Health Center.

Dr. Scott Morris, a family practice physician and ordained United Methodist minister, founded the Church Health Center in 1987 to provide quality, affordable healthcare for working, uninsured people and their families. Thanks to a broad base of support from individual donors and the faith community, as well as the volunteer help of doctors, nurses, dentists and others, the Church Health Center has grown to become the largest faith-based healthcare organization of its type in the country. They have provided care for more than 58,000 unique patients in the last 10 years without relying on government funding. The Clinic logs about 42,000 patient visits a year. Fees are charged on a sliding scale based on income. The average visit costs about $25.

Every year for the past 6 years, The Church Health Center hosts a fundraiser called Rock For Love. The event consists of several days of concerts where local Memphis musicians entertain crowds and give back to the place that has given to them. This year, for Rock For Love 6, they decided to pull out all the stops and incorporate a street festival into the roster of events. Kelli and No One Without was asked to fly to Memphis and receive some hometown love.

And did we EVER receive some hometown love! In one day, in 8 hours, Memphis purchased enough product to provide 60 people with clean water for 25 years. Yes, you heard that right. In 8 hours, 60 people received water for 25 years. No One Without is giving these filters in the name of the Church Health Center in order to promote awareness of their mission, and to thank them for including us in such a wonderful event.

The Church Health Center has chosen to send water filters to Cameroon, Kenya and Rwanda!

Hold onto your hats Memphis, No One Without is on the roster for Rock For Love 7 next year!

We got an email from someone named Lisa, eager to donate to No One Without. We explained to her that as we are not a non-profit, we do not take donations and that the giving is built into the purchase. And that her purchase would provide one person with clean water for 25 years.

Rather than getting discouraged that the donation was a no go, she took to the website to check everything out. Man did she have a party on there! Lisa purchased enough items to single handedly provide one whole filter to the people of Cameroon! 20 individual people in Cameroon will receive clean water thanks to Lisa! We wanted you to know who she is and what she loves, so we asked her some questions.

1. I like to donate to and support social business because?

I have been very blessed and like to help whenever I can. I also think it is important to support local businesses so if there is an opportunity to do both I am definitely onboard!

2. My favorite charity/social business is?

Typically anything that has to do with children in need.

3. I love No One Without because?

It gives me the opportunity to contribute to two great causes at one time as I will be donating some of the clothes to the Goodwill. The others I will be giving to friends and family to help spread the word.

4. My favorite recipe is?

Chocolate chip cookies

5. The best song to dance to is?

Black Eye Peas “Tonight’s Gonna be a Good Night”

6. If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life it would be?

Avocados

7. My favorite No One Without product is?

Sign Your Name T-shirt

“My name is Beatrice, I am 20 years old and a mother of one, am married. I live with my husband, his family and relatives and we are 11 of us in one house. We live in Ntenmbang. For so many years today that I’ve been growing up, we’ve been suffering from water born diseases that has claimed so many lives. With the bio sand filter now, am very sure that even as we will be using the new piping system that came together with the sand filters, we will have more cleaner water than the other families that did not have the filters. We are so grateful to the donors, to Thirst Relief”

Because of the generosity of LISA and ALL of our devoted friends and family of No One Without, Beatrice can rest easier. The people of her village have been trained in the building and upkeep of the bio sand filters. They have also been trained in necessary hygiene protocols.

They will continue to have life saving clean water!

We are proud to announce our first intern at No One Without! She’s going to be spending the summer helping us further the mission of clean water around the globe. We’re hopeful that she might stay around in the fall! Her name is Elynn Kann and we are so proud to introduce you to her!

1. What is the best job you’ve ever had?

I was an assistant for a photographer for a short period of time during high
school. My boss was absolutely amazing, and I loved learning unusual tips about
photography that can really make a photo.

2. What is your dream job?

I would love to eventually start my own for or non-profit company. I have always
had a passion for global development and health, and I would love to be working
in some way to raise awareness on some of the important international issues
that affect our world today.

3. Why do you love No One Without?

I love No One Without because of their passion to fight for the cause they
believe in. They sell beautiful clothes, but more importantly they have leaders
and workers that are focused on bringing water to people without. No One
Without is a strong name, and it reflects the strong drive that the company
has.

4. What’s your best dance move?

If anyone has seen the movie Hitch, I like to follow his advice by limiting my
dance movements at all. But I do find myself occasionally breaking out the
shopping cart every once in a while despite my lack of rhythm

5. Top 3 favorite foods?

Peanut Butter: By far the best food

Broccoli: Kids, give it a chance

My grandmother’s spaghetti sauce: It is perfect for a chilly fall weekend

6. Where is the best place you’ve ever traveled?

Last summer I was blessed with the opportunity to spend a month in Thailand, and I
left a little bit of my heart there. I was overwhelmed by the rich culture, and
the beautiful landscape throughout the country, and I would love to return
again someday.

7. Where is the top place you dream of traveling to?

I would love to spend an extended amount of time touring every region of Italy. I
have always found the language, culture, and landscape to be beautiful, and the
food is to die for.

8. If you could change one thing about the world, what would it be and why?

I think that it is so important that people remember how closely all of us our
connected, and that every action we are taking is effecting someone else. To
often we get stuck in our everyday lives, and forget to open are eyes to some
of the challenges going on around us. Awareness is so incredibly important!

9. ”My favorite No One Without product is?”

I love the “Back to the 80s” sweatshirt for women. Coming from Wisconsin, I am always in need for warm clothing, and that piece looks incredibly cozy for a cold day.

10. Advice for our readers?

You as the consumer have the power to choose what products you support. By choosing
to buy a shirt from No One Without you are not only getting a great piece of
clothing, but you are supporting a mission much larger. Support companies that
are making a difference and a positive impact.

Here at No One Without, we love getting to know the people behind the organizations. Friendship is our number one priority in partnership. In order to be successful at a partnership, you have to understand each other, laugh with one other, and do life with one another.

We want to you to meet Adam from Thirst Relief. Adam is Mr. Communications over there in the land of bio-sand filters and life changing clean water! He’s got some good moves, good taste in cookies, and good advice for all of us. Let’s get to know Adam!

1. How did you get involved with Thirst Relief? I got introduced to them through my college roommate which led to an internship with Thirst Relief the summer before my senior year.

2. What’s the best part of your job? My favorite part is getting to read the project updates and hear stories about the lives being directly impacted. It’s an extremely rewarding reminder for why we exist.

3. What’s the hardest part of your job? Doing the tasks that can sometimes feel tedious. It varies week by week.

4. Favorite kind of cookie? Chocolate chip cookies just out of the oven. Am I allowed to add with some ice cream? Because that is borderline utopia for me.

5. Best dance move in your bag of tricks? I’ve got a pretty wide assortment depending on the environment. The majority of them are Night at the Roxbury focused. I think I’m way better than I actually am.

6. The best vacation you ever took and why? I’ve been fortunate enough to do a lot of traveling, so it’s hard to pick a favorite. I love any vacation with my family because it’s priceless time spent together.

7. Are you a dog or a cat person? Dogs a thousand times over. We have a great pyrenees/hound mix named Jack who thinks he’s king of the house.

8. What do you hope to teach young people about social business? I want young people to understand the amount of impact they can have on the world. Too often we devalue the power of one. Just look at the success that the Kony 2012 campaign had. The majority of it was propelled by the younger generations and is extremely encouraging in regards to future world change. Do not underestimate YOUR impact.

9. If you could give our readers one piece of advice, what would it be? Do good and live simply. I know that’s two things and they sound pretty basic, but I think there is a lot to be learned from consciously trying to live in accordance to both of those. I love a quote by Yvon Chouinard where he says, “The hardest thing in the world is to simplify your life.”

There are tons of music festivals coming your way this spring, summer and leading into fall. Music festivals are magnets for fashionistas and we want to give you some of our ideas so that you may walk in style! Some of our favorites are Stagecoach, Beale Street Music Festival, Bonnaroo, Bamboozle, Sasquatch, Cornerstone Festival, Lollapalooza and Wanderlust.

Let’s get into the fashion!

Ladies, work it out with some statement pieces while being able to stand the heat.

Turn people’s heads with our “Do You Have The Time?” tank dress. Mix a little navajo print in for color. Then add your favorite vintage boots and a sun hat for those rays and you’re in music festival fashion hall of fame!

Jazz up the colors with this whimsical and functional get up. Our “Time Warp” tank goes great with cut off shorts and moccasin boots, everybody’s favorite boots right now. Add a little bit of personal style with colorful tusk necklaces and Pura Vida Bracelets.

This casual outfit is good for any day in the sun. Our “Sound The Alarm” tank with a black mini skirt and gladiator sandals is so comfortable and effortless. Spice it up while changing the world with a necklace from Falling Whistles and 31 Bits bracelets.

Men, we didn’t forget you! They don’t use the word swag for nothin, we’ll give it to you!

Roll up your khakis, find your best pair of oxfords and rock our “Race the Clock” tee. Add some classic sunglasses and this leather jacket for when the breeze picks up at night.

Find your best pair of rugged jeans, pair them with rugged navajo printed boots, our “Mr Bean” beanie and our “Home Team” baseball shirt. Relaxed and casual is the way to go for these festivals, you can’t go wrong with a worn out vintage look.

Here at No One Without, we have been cooking up some awesome new ideas for more impact. Better branding, simpler ways to give, and easier ways for you guys to get involved.

We’ve just exited the kitchen and we’re ready to tell you what we’ve come up with!

We have a new Mission Statement that goes a little something like this:

Your purchase provides one person with clean water for 25 years. One At A Time.

We started this company to provide for people who need it most, to change injustice in the world that we want to change, and to give more consistently and sustainably to make a bigger impact together.

Simply put: Our mission is to give responsibly and be transparent in doing so. Therefore, let us explain the change.

When it comes to making an impact, we discovered that the more we spread out our efforts (5 options for giving), the less consistent giving to each project is, the longer it takes to reach our goals and ultimately the smaller the impact for each.

In the first week of the new business model, 23 people have been provided with clean water. We are in contact with Thirst Relief to tell you where these water filters will be placed.

How Does It Work?

Thirst Relief International came up with a great way to provide clean water. Bio-Sand Filters. The Bio-sand filter has the ability to produce safe, clean drinking water from both contaminated surface water, and ground water sources. Each filter provides 20 people with clean water for 25 years.

What will happen to the other projects we started?

The funds raised will still go directly to their respective organizations. Don’t worry – we’re still all very close friends and support each other endlessly forever. Regardless of whether those organizations are written into our business model or not, they will be part of who we are and our beginnings forever.

Why Thirst Relief International?

Simply, access to clean water is a fundamental need – everywhere on the planet. So we wanted to keep it universal and help reach as many people as possible. It all starts with clean water…We encourage you to learn more about Thirst Relief here: http://no1without.com/why_water.php

The title of this blog, The Circle of Compassion, refers to a group of brands that we love. These are people who are pushing the envelope, changing the way we do business, and most of all, spreading compassion. When we set up our shoot for the new collection, we really wanted to accessorize our models with as many socially motivated brands as we could. We made friends in the process. This blog will feature 4 brands that we featured in our latest photo shoot.

1. Moral Eyes: For every pair of eyewear purchased, Moral Eyes donates a pair through New Eyes For The Needy. There are 285 million people in the world that are visually impaired and New Eyes For The Needy has been addressing this problem for 75 years. Moral Eyes helps to conquer visual impairments with the sale of stylish and affordable glasses of all kinds. www.moraleyes.com

2. 31 Bits: The founders of 31 Bits are using fashion and design to empower women to rise above poverty. The sales of beautiful beaded jewelry provides literacy education, financial and vocational training, holistic care, and strong support systems. We can’t get enough of their necklaces! www.31bits.com

3. Pura Vida Bracelets: Every Pura Vida bracelet purchased helps provide full time jobs for local artisans in Costa Rica. Pura Vida is also a member of One Percent For The Planet and donates a portion of their proceeds to the Surfrider Foundation, a grassroots foundation dedicated to cleaning up beaches and oceans around the world. Pura Vida is catching the style craze right now, stackable bracelets. Trust us, you can’t wear just one! www.puravidabracelets.com

4. Spirithoods: Buy a Spirithood, help and animal. The purchase of ProBlue hoods provides a 10% donation to a non-profit organization dedicated to helping that particular animal. Some of these organizations are Polar Bears International, Snow Leopard Conservancy, Wolf Hollow and Pandas International. Spirithoods allow us to channel the fun side of life and live freely! Spirithoods also has a unique partnership with Falling Whistles, who are dear to our hearts as well. www.spirithoods.com
